A Brief Biography of Rick Scott

For the past twenty-five years Rick Scott has enjoyed a varied and colourful career as a singer, songwriter and actor for stage, radio, film and television. He first rose to prominence in 1974 as singer and dulcimer player in the legendary folk groups Pied Pumkin String Ensemble and Pied Pear, with Joe Mock and Shari Ulrich, with whom he recorded five albums. In 1985 he formed The Rick Scott Band with Harris Van Berkel, Andy Graffiti and Connie Lebeau, touring across Canada and winning Best Independent Club Act and Independent Album of the Year for the You Better Dancing album in the Tribute to West Coast Music.

In 1990 Rick turned his attention fulltime to young audiences and has since performed more than a thousand family concerts in schools, theatres and festivals across Canada, the U.S., Asia and Australia. he currently performs regularly on Fred Penner's Place on the CBS Television Network. he has released three best selling family recordings: The Electric Snowshoe (1989) which went gold in 1998; Rick Around The Rock (1992) which contains his popular rap introduction to Mozart, The Yo Mo Concerto; and the CD Philharmonic Fool (1996) which was nominated for 1996 Juno Award and 1997 Pacific Music Industry Association award for Best Children's Album. From that album the video ANGELS DO, celebrating special needs children and starring Rick's granddaughter Mielle, is currently being shown on Treehouse TV, The Knowledge Network, Rogers Cable and the Disney Channel. An enhanced CD single of ANGELS DO and GRANDMA was released in late 1998 in the UK.

In May and June 1998 Rick reunited with Shari Ulrich and Joe Mock (who now lives in France) for a 27 concert tour of BC and Alberta as Pied Pumkin String Ensemble. For the '98 tour Rick and engineer Si Garber produced an anthology CD Entitled Plucking deVine: Selected Recordings 1974-80, making the Pumkin's music available for the first time on CD (Nominated for Best Folk Album in the 1998 Pacific Music Industry Association Awards).
