1. Calling All Children

Calling all children home to bed.
Ally-ally-in-free sleepy head.
Don't forget what the wise man said, he said
Hey, nonny hey, nonny ho.

Calling all children home for the night -
Catch a star and hold on tight.
Oh, you are a beautiful sight,
Singing hey, nonny hey, nonny ho.

Leave your dolls in their little brass beds.
Leave your books and your buckets and sleds.
Leave your puppies and bikes and bubbles.
Leave your cares and leave your troubles.

Calling all children for the day -
Dishes and spoons and toys away.
Owl and fox coming out to play,
Singing hey, nonny hey, nonny ho.

(Chorus)

Calling all children, comes the moon -
Dish is running with the spoon.
Whatever you do, don't grow up too soon,
Just sing hey, nonny hey, nonny ho.

2. 40 Winks

Your daddy loves his coffee, he drinks it by the cup.
Your daddy says that coffee's gonna wake him right up.
So, I don't wanna drink what your daddy drinks,
'Cause all I want is 40 winks!
And daddy says I'm lazy but I'm crazy 'bout my bed!
Love those visions of sugarplums dancin' in my head!
Yeah, some people think that snoozin's stinks, but,
All I want is 40 winks.

I asked your cousin Danny, he says sleeping's for the birds
And Georgie, Sam and Rosie Roo repeated those same words!
Molly, Henry, Quinn and Kate and Eliot agree,
That on their list of favorite things it's low priority.
Yes, every child I've ever known will say that bedtime stinks,
But every lovin' mama loves her 40 winks!

Now, millions of babies go to bed at night,
And, yes, heaven knows, they do fuss and they fight.
Now, I don't know why everybody wastes time protesting -
I'd rather waste my time resting.
Your daddy says I'm lazy but I'm crazy 'bout my bed.
Love those visions of sugarplums dancin' in my head!
Yeah, some people think that snoozin's stinks, but,
All I want is 40 winks.

Elisabeth and Nora think that sleeping is a bore.
They think their bed's a trampoline and jumping's what it's for!
"It's only 9:00! Get out the pogostick!" says Kate.
And Willie laughs out loud if you announce it's getting late!
Yes, every child I've ever known will say that bedtime stinks,
But every lovin' mama loves her 40 winks!

Now, I know all you wanna do is jump up and play,
But I just wanna cozy up and call it a day.
It's not that I don't like your tiddlywinks,
It's just that I love my 40 winks.
I don't care what anyone thinks -
All I want is 40 winks!

3. Slow Down, Lizzie

Slow down, slow diwn little Lizzie, don't you
see your daddy waving,
See him way out on the deep blue sea, sea, sea, sea, sea.
Slow down, slow down, little Lizzie, don't you
hear your mama comin',
Comin' on to hold you, squeeze you so complete,
singin', so complete.
Slow down, now little Lizzie, sun won't set
without your sweet smile.
Oh, now didn't you grab this day and shake it,
now didn't you shake it
So complete, so complete, so complete.

Bedtime now, little Lizzie, sun won't set
without your sweet smile.
Don't you see the lambs are turnin' to
their mama's, calling.
It's bedtime, bedtime little Lizzie. Don't you see
your mama comin',
Big ole shadow fallin', fallin' across your face,
across your sweet face.
Bedtime now, little Lizzie, don't you want to call it over,
Tell your Daddy how you love him,
tell your mama deep secrets
All about days to come, all about days to come.
Days to come, days to come, days to come, days to come.

Goodnight now, little Lizzie, sun is setting
on your sweet smile.
Didn't you take this day and shake it,
take this day and shake it, baby.
Don't you hear your mama comin',
comin' on to hold you squeeze you,
So complete, so complete, your mama loves you,
so complete.

4. The Dream Song

I dreamed I went to Egypt in a pink wheelbarrow.
I danced across the desert with a very friendly pharaoh.
Then I floated skyward, and I chatted with the sphinx,
And then I lay down in the sand and
grabbed my 40 winks . . .

I dreamed my little bedroom had a garden for a rug,
It featured every single type of common garden bug,
And it sprouted tons of roses in lots of kinds of pinks!
Oh, man, you know I really loved those 40 winks!

I dreamed I went to Charlie's store
to buy some rubber bands,
And Charlie was a centipede with
50 pairs of hands!
He washed them before bedtime
in 50 tiny sinks,
Then he put on his nightcap,
and lay down for 40 winks!

I dreamed I was very famous
champion ice skater.
My skating partner was a green and handsome alligator.
We skated beautiful duets on
lots of lovely rinks,
And after every pas-de-deux we
both got 40 winks!
I dreamed my children went to bed and slept
all through the night . . .
And I went in to watch them, and it was a lovely sight . . .

5. In This Room

There's a garden in this room.
There's a tiny flower.
Honeybee, watch her grow
Sweeter by the hour.

And I will rock you all night long,
And I will rock you with my song,
And I will rock you 'til the morning.

There's a child in this room,
Darkness all around her.
Once I dreamed of this room,
Dreamed of her, then found her

(Chorus)

There's an angel in this room.
Other angels 'round her,
Sing her song, all night longl
Aren't they glad they've found her . . .

(Chorus)

6. Ten Sleepy Sheep

One sleepy sheep is on the hill.
Will you wave to her? Yes, you will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

Two sleepy sheep play on the hill.
Will you play with them? Yes, you will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

Four sleepy sheep go over the hill.
Will we sing to them? Yes, we will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

(baa baa chorus)

Six sleepy sheep play on the hill.
Will yo uplay with them? Yes, you will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

Eight sleepy sheep play on the hill.
Will you play with them? Yes, you will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

(baa baa chorus)

Nine sleepy sheep go over the hill.
Will you follow them? Yes, you will.
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.

Ten sleepy sheep are going to bed.
Will you follow them, sleepyhead?
One for the money, two for the show,
Three, let's go.
Off you go.

7. Someone Like Me

If I were a princess, I'd have lots of shiny rings.
If I were an angel, I'd have several pairs of wings.
If I were a sailor, I would wear a cute white hat.
If I were a witch I'd have a terrible black cat.

If I were just a child, and
Just about your size,
I'd dream of all that I could be and
Then I'd wake up happily,
To find that I'm someone like me,
When I open up my eyes.

If I were a church bell, I'd ring each day at noon.
If I were a violin, I'd always be in tune.
If I were an elephant, I'd have a handy nose.
If I were Romeo, I'd send my love a rose.

(Chorus)

If I were a star up in the sky I'd shine so bright,
All the angels up there, just wouldn't
sleep at night.
If I were the jungle, I'd be full of snakes and birds,
If I were a storybook, I'd have a million words.

(Chorus)

8. This Starry Night

Oh, this starry night
I'm floatin' 'bove my bed like a feather
Mm-hmm, like a feather

Through my window I see the fireflies in the grass
Through my window I hear the chinabird on the hill
Through my window I see a dog asleep in the hay
Through my window I hear singin' up from the house

Oh, this starry night
I'm floatin' 'bove my bed like a feather
Mm-hmm, like a feather

Through my window I see sister watching the moon
Through my window I hear church bell ringing the time
Through my window I see shadows dance on the house
Through my window I hear mama's sweet lullaby

(Chorus)

9. The Farmer's Son

There was a farmer had a feeling
in the middle of the night.
there was a farmer had a feeling
something was not right.
So, he counted all his chickens,
and he counted all his sheep,
And he sat down onthe haystack
And he soon fell fast asleep.

There the farmer had a dream
in the middle of the night:
Some children did a circle dance,
little hands holding tight.
And around 'round the cornfield,
they danced the whole night long.
And the farmer woke up in the hay when
he heard them sing this song:

Singing, "John, John the farmer's son,
Your daddy loves you so.
Go dancing with your partner, and then
Let your partner go."

There was a farmer heard a cry
in the middle of the night.
It was John, John the farmer's son,
and something was not right.
So the old man rocked the cradle,
and he counted lots of sheep,
And then the farmer kissed his son
and he watched him fall asleep

(Chorus)

10. Visiting Cinderella

Wouldn't you like to visit Cinderella?
Hold a feather in your hand and fly?
You could have some breakfast with the charming prince,
And watch the fairy godmothers stroll by.

Wouldn't you like to spend some time with Snow White?
Hop a little hopscotch in the stars?
You could shake the hands of the seven dwarves,
And watch them drive away in seven cars.

Nighttime, bedtime, close your eyes.
Nighttime, right time,
That's when a young girl flies.

Wouldn't you like to visit
Sleeping Beauty?
That would be the friendly
thing to do.
Close your eyes and think of
Sleeping Beauty,
Maybe she will come and visit you.

11. A Tinker, A Tailor

A tinker, or a tailor,
You will be what you will be.
But, darling, just remember,
You can always count on me.

Oh, darling, when you are older,
You will do what you will do.
But one thing you can be sure of,
I will always love you.

And when, some day,
When you are far from here,
And troubled in your sleep,
Just call on me,
I will be there for you.
That's a promise I will keep.

A soldier, maybe a sailor,
You will be what you will be.
Oh, darling, wherever you go,
You can count on me.

12. The Red Balloon

See that girl with the red balloon.
See her let it go.
Balloon is flying to the sky,
And the girl is laughing so.

See that boy with the blue balloon.
See him let it go.
Balloon is flying to the moon -
Can you see him smiling so?

Hold my hand, my child, my own.
Small today, tomorrow you are grown.

Hold the hand of a little child,
Then you let it go.
Children flying to the stars -
Can you see them smiling so?

13. Great Big Dog

Great big dog came down the meadow,
Wagged his tail and shook the meadow.
Go away dog, go away dog -
You can't have my baby.
